WHITING, Ind. - Calumet College of St. Joseph (IN) opened the game with a 10-0 run and never trailed as the Crimson Wave posted their first-ever win over University of St. Francis with a 66-58 victory over the Saints Tuesday night.

USF (4-6) had won the previous 20 meetings between the two schools, but Calumet (3-5) never relinquished its early lead and won its third straight game after opening the season with five consecutive losses.

Calumet pushed its first-half lead to as many as 13 points at 19-6 before the Saints finally found some offense. USF closed the gap to 28-27 and trailed by just three points at the half at 30-27.

The Crimson Wave, though, started the second half just as it did the first with a 10-0 run that quickly pushed the lead back into double digits at 40-27. USF did manage one more rally and closed the gap to as little as three points but could never manage to tie the score or take the lead.

St. Francis finished the game with three players scoring in double figures, topped by junior guard Julie Schiffler (Nazareth Academy/La Grange Park, IL) who collected 15 points. Freshman center Caitlin Cody (Mother McAuley H.S./Chicago, IL) added 11 points in her first career start in place of the injured Jen Andes (Hall H.S./Princeton, IL). Sophomore forward Molly Bardson (Ottawa H.S./Grand Ridge, IL) also added 11 points to the Saints' effort.

USF struggled from the floor, shooting just 29.5 percent on the night (18-of-61). The Saints hit 9-of-25 shots (36.0) in the first half and made only 9-of-36 (25.0) in the second stanza. Calumet also beat the Saints soundly on the boards, grabbing 48 rebounds compared to just 32 for USF. Bardson led the Saints with 7 rebounds.

The Saints will take a short break for the Thanksgiving holiday and return to practice next week. USF plays its next game on Dec. 4 (7 p.m.) when they start a stretch of four straight home games at the newly-named Patrick J. Sullivan Center against McKendree University.
