NOTRE DAME, Ind. --- Three University of St. Francis runners placed among the top 100 performers overall  at the National Catholic Women's Cross Country Invitational on Friday leading the Fighting Saints to a 20th place finish at the 31-team meet held on the campus of University of Notre Dame.

Senior Meghan Bannatz (Novi H.S./Novi, MI) led the Saint brigade with her 58th-place showing.  She ran the 5K course in 19:48.8.

Sophomore Courtney Madden (Plainfield Central H.S./Plainfield, IL) edged out teammate Brittany McAllister (Plainfield South H.S./Crest Hill, IL) to finish as USF's second-best runner and 94th overall.  Her time of 20:30.1 was eight-tenths of one second better than McAllister, who was right behind at 20:30.9.

St. Francis' other points came from freshmen Renee Cholyway (Regina H.S./Warren, MI) and Torin Mallonee (Xavier H.S./Cedar Rapids, IA).  Cholyway placed 163rd overall with her time of 21:33, while Mallonee was 179th at 21:54.1.

Host Notre Dame cruised to the meet title - its 16th - with its top five runners placing among the top seven overall, including top overall finisher Lindsey Ferguson (17:33.1). 

Canisius College (N.Y.) was a distant second with its 129 points followed by DePaul University at 150.

USF totaled 547 points in the meet, which featured 260 total runners.

The Fighting Saints take off next week before heading to Chicago's lakefront on Oct. 3 to compete in the Loyola University Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational.  The meet begins at 11:45 a.m.  

Notes: Excluding NCAA I competitors, the Fighting Saints finished 14th overall out of 24 teams with Bannatz placing 26th out of 202 runners.  Madden and McAllister were 53rd and 54th, respectively.
