
ORLANDO, Fla. --- University of St. Francis snapped a five-match losing streak and tallied its first win on its Florida trip when the Saints defeated Alfred University (NY), 8-1, on Monday.
Seniors Erick Dobrzynski (Moraine Valley Community College/Justice, IL) and Jakub Szymanski (Bethany College, KS/Poznan, Poland) and freshman Mark Zubov (St. Petersburg H.S./St. Petersburg, Russia) all claimed a pair of wins.
USF (2-5) swept through its six singles matches with only Dobrzynski forced to go to a third set in his 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 10-3 victory in the No. 5 slot. Each of USF's other five singles wins took the minimum two sets, including Zubov's 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 and Szymanski's 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 2.
Senior Jacob Quigley (Saint Xavier University/Joliet Catholic Academy/Joliet, IL) at No. 3 singles and sophomore Andres Stecher (Pestalozzi H.S./Buenos Aires, Argentina) at No. 4 claimed matching 6-1, 6-0 decisions with junior Eddie Semik (Marian Catholic H.S./Park Forest, IL) winning 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6.
USF, 1-2 on its current swing through the south, continues play on Tuesday facing NCAA I University of Toledo (OH) and Warner University (FL).
