UPLAND, Ind. --- Juan Santoliva (Bradley-Bourbonnais H.S./Bourbonnais, IL) extended his goal-less streak to 194 minutes and Victor Trujillo (De La Salle Institute/Chicago, IL) recorded his first collegiate game-winning goal as University of St. Francis made it two wins in a row on the road with a 1-0 victory over Taylor University (Ind.) Friday afternoon.
Santoliva, who also played the first 81 minutes of a 1-0 shutout over Benedictine University in his last start back on Sept. 16, stopped seven shots on goal Friday with four coming in the first half and three in the second half. The effort lowered his goals-against average to 1.25 for the season having allowed four goals in four games covering 287 minutes.
A sophomore, Santoliva last allowed a goal in the 66th-minute of a 3-2 setback to Missouri Valley College on Sept. 13.
Senior Tony Sallese (Plainfield Central H.S./Plainfield, IL), junior Jordan Parcel (Minooka H.S./Minooka, IL) and freshmen Michael Kowal (Neuqua Valley H.S./Plainfield, IL) and Shaun McMillin (Stagg H.S./Hickory Hills, IL) did their part as well as starters on defense keying USF's second shutout of the season.
Santoliva's counterpart, Taylor's Josh Giuliano, also totaled seven saves, but Trujillo was able to get one in on Giulano early, just 4:12 into the non-conference affair. Trujillo's shot was USF's third of the game and its second on goal. It came from the top of the goal box and gave the freshman his team-leading third goal of the campaign.
The contest was the fourth straight and the fifth in the last six Saint games decided by one goal.
The match also marked the end of the non-conference portion of USF's schedule. The Saints (3-4-1) open up Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday against defending regular-season champion Illinois Institute of Technology at the Galowich YMCA Soccer Fields. Game time is 4 p.m.
