MISHAWAKA, Ind. - University of St. Francis managed to put a scare into host Bethel College (IN) on Friday but came up just a little short. The Saints fell by a 6-3 score, moving their record to 5-3 on the fall season.

USF got singles wins from freshman Katie Kipping (Newman Central Catholic H.S./Dixon, IL) at No. 1 (7-5, 6-1) and junior Barb Koziol (Reavis H.S./Burbank, IL) at No. 6 (6-2, 6-2). The Saints were also victorious at No. 1 doubles with the pairing of Kipping and sophomore Danielle Emola (Lincoln-Way East H.S./Frankfort, IL) winning by an 8-5 score.

Both Emola at No. 2 singles and senior Carla Braun (Lincoln-Way Central H.S./New Lenox, IL) at No. 5 pushed their matches to second-set tiebreakers before falling and those two bouts ended up being the difference in the final verdict. The other two doubles bouts were also close with junior Emily Zajda (Joliet Catholic Academy/Plainfield, IL) and sophomore Agnes Belza (Nazareth Academy/Chicago, IL) losing by an 8-4 score at No. 2 and Braun and Koziol falling by just an 8-5 margin at No. 3.

USF plays host to Mount Mary College (WI) at 11 a.m., Sunday at the Challenge Fitness courts in Lockport.
