JOLIET, Ill. - University of St. Francis enjoyed a 2-for-2 day with a pair of victories in Friday's play at the USF "Mr. Submarine" Volleyball Invitational at the Saints' Recreation Center.

USF (12-7, 3-0) dropped game one vs. Culver-Stockton (4-11) but came back to win its afternoon match in five games. The Saints then swept Concordia (MI) in three games in the evening's final match.

Junior middle blocker Lauren Hoffman (Plainfield South H.S./Plainfield, IL) keyed the victory over Culver-Stockton with 9 blocks and a team-best and career-high-matching total of 12 kills. The Saints also got double-digit kill performances from freshman outside hitter Jazzmyne Robbins (La Salle-Peru H.S./Peru, IL) who had 11 and sophomore outside hitter Kristee Conrad (Stagg H.S./Hickory Hills, IL) who added 10.

USF freshman setter Ashley Richards (Wilmington H.S./Wilmington, IL) ran the offense with 46 assists and was solid on the defensive side as well with 5 total blocks. Senior libero Courtney Ambrosch (Joliet Township H.S./Joliet, IL) led the Saints with 30 digs and 20 service receptions. Richards added 16 digs, with junior middle blocker Kyrsten Becker (Rolling Meadows H.S./Arlington Heights, IL) adding 11 and freshman right-side attacker Ashley Thompson (Portage H.S./Hobart, IN) collecting 10.

Freshman defensive specialist Dana Wettergen (Oak Forest H.S./Oak Forest, IL) finished with 18 serve receptions and Becker added 17.

The Saints had an easier time with Concordia, winning the first two games by double digits before being pressed in the third and final set.

Conrad topped the team offensively with 12 kills, while Hoffman added 9 and posted a team-best .533 hitting percentage (9 kills, 1 error, 15 attempts). Richards quarterbacked the offense with 31 assists.

Conrad also led the Saints on defense with 4 blocks. Becker paced USF with 13 digs, with Richards and Ambrosch each adding 10. Ambrosch again topped the club in service receptions with 18.

The Saints complete play in the five-team tourney on Saturday with a 10 a.m. match against Trinity Christian and a noon contest against Bethel (IN).

In Friday's other action, Bethel won a pair of matches as the Pilots beat both Trinity Christian (3-0) and Concordia (3-1). Trinity Christian defeated Culver-Stockton to finish 1-1 on the day. Culver-Stockton and Concordia each went 0-2 on the first day of competition.
