JOLIET, Ill. - Junior outfielder Megan O'Brien (Richards H.S./Oak Lawn, IL) drove home the game-winning run in game one with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning and added a pair of hits and two RBI in the nightcap to lead University of St. Francis to a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference sweep of Trinity International University at the Inwood Softball Complex Thursday afternoon.

The Saints won the opener 2-1 and took the nightcap 10-2 in six innings.

O'Brien's base hit snapped a 1-1 tie and gave the Saints the win in a pitching duel between USF senior Kim Malacina (Lockport H.S./Homer Glen, IL) and TIU's Allie Micucci. Malacina (10-2) surrendered a run on a pair of hits in the first inning and then blanked the Trojans on only one hit the rest of the way. She struck out four and walked none.

USF managed just five hits of Micucci. The Saints pushed across a run in the fourth inning on an infield single by freshman designated player Susan Newton (Lemont H.S./Lemont, IL) that scored senior right fielder Kaylee Shell (Wilmington H.S./Wilmington, IL) all the way from second base.

Freshman centerfielder Lexi Southall (Wilmington H.S./Wilmington, IL) led the Saints with a pair of hits and scored the winning run on O'Brien's sixth-inning single.

USF scored its 10 runs on nine hits in the nightcap and also took advantage of five TIU errors. O'Brien was the lone Saint with more than one hit as seven of her teammates also recorded base hits. Senior second baseman Caitlin Dolan (Lincoln-Way East H.S./Frankfort, IL) and junior third baseman Jenny Festin (Lockport H.S./Lockport, IL) each joined O'Brien with a pair of RBI.

Junior pitcher Jackie Frey (Plainfield South H.S./Plainfield, IL) (2-1) went the full six innings and allowed a pair of earned runs on five hits. She struck out four and walked none.

USF is scheduled to travel to Milwaukee, Wis., on Saturday for a CCAC twin bill at Cardinal Stritch University.
