MISHAWAKA, Ind. --- University of St. Francis opened its dual-sport season in grand fashion on Friday afternoon knocking off Bethel College (Ind.) 9-0 at Baker Park.

Newcomers Jakub Szymanski (Bethany College, KS/Poznan, Poland), Andres Stecher (Pestalozzi H.S./Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Erick Dobrzynski (Moraine Valley C.C./Justice, IL) got right into the mix with Szymanski and Stecher teaming up for an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles and then winning their respective singles matches. Szymanski cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 1 slot with Stecher claiming a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 4.

Dobrzynski opened his St. Francis career with a 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.

Returnees Scott Surges (Providence Catholic H.S./Joliet, IL), Luis Oliveira (Seward County CC, KS/Sao Lourenco, Brazil) and Jacob Quigley (Saint Xavier University/Joliet, IL) picked up right where they left off from one year ago with the trio all earning a pair of wins on Friday.

Surges matched up with sophomore Sean Markert (Plainfield South H.S./Plainfield, IL) for an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles prior to claiming a 6-2, 6-2 decision in the No. 2 singles position.

Oliveira and Quigley rounded out the doubles portion of the slate, also winning 8-5 in the No. 1 spot. Oliveira then posted a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles, while Quigley was taking care of business in the No. 5 position, winning 6-4, 6-0.

USF (1-0) heads to the ITA Regional Tournament down in Lebanon, Ill. next weekend (Oct. 2-3).
