JOLIET, Ill. -University of St. Francis fell behind in the first 14 minutes and could not recover as the Saints dropped a 4-0 contest to Illinois Tech in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer match Tuesday afternoon at the Galowich YMCA field.
Illinois Tech scored its first goal off a corner kick in the 14th minute and then added another one just seven minutes prior to halftime.
USF's hopes of closing the gap early in the second half were dealt a blow when Illinois Tech scored on a long kick just three minutes into the final period. The Scarlet Hawks (8-2, 3-0) added another goal in the game's final minute to account for the final score.
USF (1-8, 1-1) managed just three shots on goal in the game, getting one each from senior midfielder Caitlin Byrnes (Plainfield South H.S./Joliet, IL), freshman midfielder Morgan Rowe (Ottawa H.S./Marseilles, IL) and freshman midfielder Amber Zukowski (Andrew H.S./Tinley Park, IL).
The Saints travel to Chicago on Saturday for a noon CCAC match at Saint Xavier.
