JOLIET, Ill. --- Chris Robinson, a former three-sport athlete at Reed-Custer High School, has signed a letter of intent to attend University of St. Francis this coming fall and play baseball for the Fighting Saints and first-year head coach Brian Michalak.
A transfer from Southeastern Illinois College where he was a middle infielder and outfielder for the Falcons for two seasons, Robinson earned three varsity letters each in football, basketball and baseball at Reed-Custer.
In 2009, a year in which the Comets advanced to the state finals in baseball, Robinson was named both an all-Interstate 8 Conference and Kankakee all-area choice.
“Chris is an athletic middle infielder with good speed,” said Michalak. “He can steal bases for us. Plus, with his athletic ability, he can play multiple positions for us.”
Robinson (Braidwood, Ill.) plans to continue working towards a degree in secondary education at the Joliet-based school.
St. Francis advanced to the semifinal round of the NAIA National Championship Opening Round for the second year in a row this past spring after capturing the 2011 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament and placing second during the league’s regular season. The Saints went 41-14 on the year.
