
ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- University of St. Francis had its seven-match winning streak snapped by No. 20 Lindenwood (MO) Friday afternoon but the Saints bounced back to win their final three contests at the Lindenwood Invitational.
USF took the host Lions to four games and all four were very closely contested. The Saints dropped the first two games by scores of 25-22 and 26-24 and then came back to post a decisive 25-16 win in game three. Lindenwood trailed game four 25-24 but scored the final three points to eke out a 27-25 win.
Freshman outside hitter Jazzmyne Robbins (La Salle-Peru H.S./Peru, IL) and sophomore outside hitter Kristee Conrad (Stagg H.S./Hickory Hills, IL) led USF with 16 kills apiece. Senior libero Courtney Ambrosch (Joliet Township H.S./Joliet, IL) paced the defense with 24 digs and junior middle blocker Lauren Hoffman (Plainfield South H.S./Plainfield, IL) had 5 blocks.
USF then finished Friday's play with a three-game sweep of Lindsey Wilson (KY). Conrad topped the team with 14 kills and Robbins contributed a dozen. Ambrosch collected 19 digs and Hoffman had 3 blocks.
The Saints beat both William Jewell (MO) and Hannibal-La Grange (MO) in four-game matches on Saturday.
Robbins again paced USF against William Jewell with 17 kills and had just 1 hitting error in 40 total attempts. Conrad added 11 kills. Ambrosch contributed a team-high 17 digs, with freshman Dana Wettergren (Oak Forest H.S./Oak Forest, IL) adding 16 and freshman Ashley Thompson (Portage H.S./Hobart, IN) recording 13.
Five players notched twin-digit figures in kills versus Hannibal-La Grange. Robbins led the way with 14, sophomore Sarah Ahline (Lemont H.S./Lemont, IL) had 13, junior Kyrsten Becker (Rolling Meadows H.S./Arlington Heights, IL) collected 12, Conrad finished with 11 and Hoffman turned in 10. Ambrosch keyed the defense with 25 digs and added 23 serve receptions. Freshman setter Ashley Richards (Wilmington H.S./Wilmington, IL) ran the offense with 53 assists and added 11 digs. Becker had 9 digs and also posted a team-high total of 26 serve receptions.
USF (18-8, 4-0) returns home for a critical week of Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference action. The Saints, who share first place at 4-0 with Olivet Nazarene and Illinois Tech, play host to fourth-place Saint Xavier on Tuesday and co-leader Illinois Tech on Thursday. Both matches are at the USF Recreation Center and are slated to start at 7 p.m.
