Romeoville- The University of St. Francis women's track team began the 2012 indoor season just a stone throw away at Lewis University. The recent snow accumulation outside was no indication of the blazing times taking place indoors on the track. In just the first meet of the season, the Lady Saints posted numerous personal best performances and finished high in the field.
Most of the distance crew entered into the 800m open, and the results show domination. USF Saints were able to capture positions 2-10 in the 16 member field, and were led by Erin Suttman's 2nd place finish in 2:23 and Julia Borel-Donohue's 3rd place finish of 2:29. The mile run proved to be exciting as Renee Cholyway was beat at the line, just missing the top five but finishing in 6th place with a time of 5:45. The final running event of the team was the 4x400m relay. The A team, comprised of Erin Suttman, Rachel Morman, Julia Borel-Donohue and Sonny Jenkins cruised to second place in a field of seven teams with a time of 4:20.
The field events proved equally impressive. Most noteworthy is the performance of Chelsea Rimington who won the Women's shot put with a new personal best throw of 11.94m, beating the second place finisher by an entire meter. In addition to winning the shot, Rimington followed her performance with a 4th place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 13.27m.
The USF Lady Saints will be back in action next Friday, January 20th, as they travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan to compete at the Grand Valley State University Invitational.
