Jim Trudeau - Head Coach - 7th Season

A state championship, a slew of conference titles and an induction into a hall of fame were several of Jim Trudeau's accomplishments during his 33-year coaching career at Homewood-Flossmoor High School.

Trudeau brought that impressive list of credentials to University of St. Francis, where he has continued his successful run climaxing with his 2008-09 Saints. That team, for the second straight year, fell just short of advancing to the NAIA national tournament going 17-7. The 17 wins were the third-most in school history and the most since the 1981 squad went 19-8.

Overall, Trudeau's mark stands at 64-67 in six years at the USF helm.

Trudeau, also an adjunct faculty member in USF's math department, replaced Kevin Togliatti, who coached for one season.

During Trudeau's stint at Homewood-Flossmoor, he directed the girls' varsity team for 23 years and the boys' varsity program for two seasons. He also was the boys' varsity assistant coach for 25 campaigns.

The highlight of Trudeau's tenure with the girls' team came in 1989 when the Vikings were crowned state champion. He took second in the state tournament in 1988 and added third-place finishes in 1990, 1991 and 1994. His teams also claimed 23 conference titles and 21 sectional championships.

In his two years coaching the boys' varsity team, H-F won the conference and sectional tournament both seasons.

For his successes, Trudeau was voted as the Illinois High School Tennis Coaches Association Girls Coach of the Year in 1988 and 1989. He was then inducted into the IHSTCA Hall of Fame in 1996.

Trudeau was a prominent figure in the IHSTCA as he was a board member from 1988-2000 as well as the secretary from 1992-2000. He also chaired the hall of fame, girls all-state and membership committees, while being involved in state format and sportsmanship awards.

Trudeau also was on the IHSA's Tennis Advisory Committee from 1994-97.

Besides those duties, Trudeau has been a developmental coach for the Unites States Professional Tennis Association since 2002. In addition, he was the director of Homewood-Flossmoor's Park District co-ed summer tennis camp from 1992-2002 and was a teaching professional at the Holiday Tennis Club (1982-84), Flossmoor Country Club (1973-76) and Homewood-Flossmoor Indoor Racket Club (1973-75).

On the court, Trudeau, a United States Tennis Association member since 1981, has been a been ranked among the top senior players in the Midwest since 1995, covering the 45+, 50+ and 55+ age groups.

Trudeau received both his bachelor's and master's degree in mathematics from Illinois State University. He was a mathematics instructor at ISU for the 1969-70 school year before teaching math and advanced placement calculus at Homewood-Flossmoor H.S. from 1970-2003.

Trudeau and his wife, Bonnie, reside in New Lenox. They have one daughter, Collette, and a granddaughter, Cara.
