Ryan Haun - Head Coach - 2nd Season

Ryan Haun enters his second season - and his first full campaign -- as head coach of the USF women's basketball program. He is also in his second year as an assistant director of athletics for the Saints.

Haun, 25, took over the reins as head coach in November 2009 when he stepped up from his assistant coach's role after the resignation of then-head coach Jeff Thompson in late November. USF stood just 2-5 at that juncture. The Saints won their first game under Haun, a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference home win over Holy Cross, but then lost four straight to nationally-ranked opposition to fall to 3-9.

USF, a veteran team with five senior starters, then turned its season around. The Saints won 12 of their next 13 games - including a streak of 10 straight - to improve to 15-10 and put themselves in contention for the CCAC regular-season title. That hot stretch was highlighted by a 77-72 home upset over archrival and No. 2-ranked Saint Xavier University on Jan. 12. It was SXU's only regular-season loss.

A pair of last-second, late-season setbacks to rival Olivet Nazarene University - one in the regular season and another in the CCAC tourney semifinals - were the only things that prevented the Saints from making just their second appearance in the NAIA Division I national tournament.

The Saints finished the season with a 17-13 mark and were 15-8 under Haun. USF claimed second place in the CCAC final standings behind SXU for the second straight year and again posted an 8-2 league mark.

Haun, who played basketball as a USF student under recently retired head coach Pat Sullivan, served as an assistant under Thompson in the 2008-09 season. He began his coaching career the previous year when he served as head sophomore coach of the boys' program at Joliet Catholic Academy.

Haun spent three years as a reserve guard for the Saints. He did not play his senior season and graduated in December of 2006 prior to starting his graduate studies.

Haun is a native of Granville, Ill., and starred on the basketball court for Putnam County High School. He was selected All-State Special Mention as a senior prep and was a two-time all-area pick by the La Salle News Tribune. He helped lead Putnam County to a 22-9 record as a senior and topped his squad with 86 3-point baskets.

Haun is single and resides in Downers Grove.

Matt Petersen Image
Matt Petersen - Associate Head Coach - 1st Season

Matt Petersen is in his first season as the associate head coach on the USF staff. The position with the Saints marks his first with an NAIA school after previously working at three different NCAA Division III institutions.

Petersen was an assistant coach on the staff at Elmhurst College in the 2009-10 season and helped the Bluejays qualify for their first-ever College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championship game appearance. He worked primarily with the scout teams and helped the coaching staff develop and implement scouting reports on each opponent.

Prior to Elmhurst, Petersen coached at two other CCIW institutions. He was a graduate assistant on the coaching staff at North Central College in the 2008-09 season and helped lead the team to its first appearance in the CCIW Tournament. He spent the 2007-08 campaign at Illinois Wesleyan University and was part of a program that posted 26 victories that season and led all Division III schools in scoring with an average of 86.1 points per game.

Petersen has been an accomplished AAU coach in Illinois for several years. He is the founder and coach of the Illinois Valley Starz, one of the top AAU programs in the state. He gained some familiarity with the USF program since he coached Saints' junior post player Jen Andes when she played for the Starz.

Petersen has also served as a boys' varsity assistant coach at Hall High School in Spring Valley, Ill. (2006-07) and a girls' assistant coach at University High in Normal (2003-06).

Cosima Tines Image
Cosima Tines - Assistant Coach - 3rd Season

Cosima Tines is in her third season as an assistant coach at her alma mater.

Tines first came to University of St. Francis as a highly-recruited guard out of Chicago's De La Salle Institute in the fall of 2003. Her collegiate playing career ended in the first minute of her first game as a freshman when she suffered a season-ending knee injury. Tines remained a close part of the program and did everything from videotaping practices and games to being a student assistant coach and scout prior to her graduation from USF. She joined the coaching staff in the fall of 2008 under then-head coach Jeff Thompson and remained on the staff when Ryan Haun took over in 2009.

In addition to coaching at USF, Tines is an accountant for Sodexo Services, the food service vendor for university.
