Thoughts by Gillespie that Spinozzi's shoes would be hard to fill after Mike's departure disappeared soon afterwards when a small area product from Minooka surfaced on the right side of the infield in the name of Kurt Miller. Miller batted .333 in that first year with a career-high 86 hits in 258 at bats. Miller's storybook season came in 1984 when he hit a resounding .430 (second highest average in school history) with 83 hits, including 38 for extra bases. That year he had a .767 slugging percentage to land a spot on the NAIA All-American squad. The following year wasn't much of a fluke either. Despite battling a hospital stay for tonsil problems in late March, Miller batted .333 with 80 hits, including 14 doubles and 17 home runs not to mention 74 runs batted in. Miller is among the top ten in all single-season marks and is tops in six of eight career categories. He owns top marks in hits (326), runs scored (276), runs batted in (250), doubles (58), triples (29), home runs (38), and is second in batting average at ,375, just .001 behind Jeff Hermann who batted .376.
