ORMOND BEACH, Fla. -- University of St. Francis exploded for a big inning in the nightcap for the second day in a row as the Saints baseball team picked up its third straight split of a doubleheader on day number four of its 8-day, 13-game season-opening Florida trip.

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. --- Tuesday turned out to be another wild day at the baseball diamond with both Jamestown College (ND) and University of St. Francis giving up early leads before settling for a split on the day.

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. --- University of St. Francis rallied from an eight-run deficit to win 9-8 in the first game of a doubleheader with Ohio Dominican University, but the Panthers got the best of the Saints in Game 2 with a 12-2 victory to escape with one win in the three-game series that concluded on Monday.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --- Senior pinch-hitter Joe Prohaska (St. Laurence H.S./Chicago, IL) broke a 1-1 deadlock in the top half of the 11th inning with a two-out, two-run triple to propel University of St. Francis to a 4-1 victory in the Saints' season opener Sunday night.

DAPHNE, Ala. - Gordie Gillespie, the winningest coach in college baseball history, received a Distinguished Service Award (DSA) from the United States Sports Academy. Gillespie, coach at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill., was presented with his DSA by Academy alumna and Board of Trustees member Ms. Linda Moore on 21 December 2009 on the St. Francis campus.

JOLIET, Ill. - University of St. Francis placed four players on the 2009 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference all-league team and also picked up one Gold Glove winner for defensive excellence.
